Biological Site of Special Scientific Interest inNorth Hertfordshire ,England . The site was notified in 1986 under theWildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (1969 under the 1949 act.) The site consists of a series of freshwater springs, which form a source for theRiver Cam . Due to the low temperatures of the spring pools, they provide a habitat for cold water, invertebrate animals, some of which are rare.The site is home to several species of animals, including
Platyhelminthes ,Crenobia alpina and thePolycelis felina , among many others. Much of the pools and water is surrounded by grassland.References
