Leah Lawrence is the candidate [List of nominated Progressive Conservatives] for the
Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta in the constituency ofCalgary Mountain View in the27th Alberta general election .Background
In 2000, Leah helped start Climate Change Central, the first
public-private partnership onclimate change inCanada . In 2001, Leah was nominated for a Calgary YWCA Women of Distinction Award in the area of Science, Technology and the Environment. In 2004, she founded Prairie Peaks News, an independent news magazine reporting on natural resource development and environmental issues in western Canada.More recently, Leah joined a large Canadian oil and gas company and continues to work on finding viable answers to the issues that face Albertans. In 2007, she was elected to the Board of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.
Leah is an
engineer , aneconomist and a writer, frequently contributing to publications including Alberta Oil Magazine, Oilweek, the Calgary Herald, Enviroline and Environmental Finance (UK). She received a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Systems Engineering from theUniversity of Regina in 1994 and a Masters of Economics from theUniversity of Calgary in 2001.Leah has lived in the Calgary inner city for over 13 years. She resides with her spouse, Chris Biegler, in
Hillhurst where she is an active community volunteer, chairing the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Environment (Planning) Committee.References
