Lumberjack World Championship

The Lumberjack World Championships are held annually in Hayward, Wisconsin. The event began in 1960 and is held at the Lumberjack Bowl. There are 21 events for both men and women to compete for over $50,000 in prize money. Contestants come from the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The events include sawing, chopping, logrolling, and climbing to test the strength and agility of over 100 competitors.

Block chop

A 28 inch diameter log must be severed in half in the fastest time.

Logrolling (Birling)

An an even also known as "birling", contestants stand on a log and roll it with their feet for a set amount of time until one falls off. If both remain standing when the time limit is reached, the contestants then switch to a smaller log until one falls.

ingle buck

A 20 inch diameter log must be sawn through in the fastest time.

Hot saw

Contestants use a chain saw to make three vertical cuts through a 20" diameter log in the fastest time.

peed climb

The contestants must climb to the top of a 60 or 90 foot tall cedar and ring a bell. On the descent, they must touch the pole every 15 inches (or every marked section).

The event is sponsored by various companies such as Stihl, Plum Creek, SBI Pepsi, and the local radio stations.
