- Fedogan & Bremer
Fedogan & Bremer is a
weird fiction specialty publishing house founded inMinneapolis, Minnesota in 1989 by Phil Rahman and Dr. Dennis Weiler. The name comes from a nickname for the two founders that they earned when they were in college.Arkham House had announced the forthcoming publication of "Colossus" byDonald Wandrei as early as 1965 [cite book | last=Wandrei | first=Donald | authorlink=Donald Wandrei | title=Strange Harvest | location=Sauk City, WI | publisher=Arkham House | date=1965] . However, it remained unpublished into the 1980s [cite book | last=Jaffery | first=Sheldon | authorlink=Sheldon Jaffery | title=The Arkham House Companion | location=Mercer Island, WA | publisher=Starmont House Inc.| date=1989| pages=148 | id=ISBN 1-55742-005-X] . Phil Rahman and Dr. Dennis Weiler who had previously produced a commercial cassette recording of a reading ofH. P. Lovecraft 's "Fungi from Yuggoth ", approached the Wandrei estate with the hopes of publishing the collection. While no manuscript nor proposed contents could be found, Rahman and Weiler went forward and published a collection using the same title as the unpublished Arkham House collection. Fedogan and Bremmer continues to publish the sorts of works that were published by Arkham House in the sixties underAugust Derleth 's direction [cite book | last=Chalker | first=Jack L. | authorlink=Jack L. Chalker | coauthors=Mark Owings | title=The Science-Fantasy Publishers: A Bibliographic History, 1923-1998 | location=Westminster, MD and Baltimore | publisher=Mirage Press, Ltd.| pages=257 | date=1998] . Fedogan & Bremer books were distributed by DreamHaven Books in Minneapolis for many years. They are now distributed by Arkham House.Imprints
In 1996, with the publication of "
The Last Pin ", byHoward Wandrei , Fedogan & Bremer launched a subsidiary imprint, F & B Mystery. The imprint focuses on mystery and detective fiction. Since title pages list the publisher simply as "F & B Mystery," this has generated some confusion among librarians and bibliographers.Awards
In 1998, Fedogan & Bremer won a
World Fantasy Award , Special Award - Non-Professional, for book publishing [*cite web
