He was elected to theCanadian House of Commons in 1945 as a Member of theCooperative Commonwealth Federation to represent theriding of Swift Current. After his federal political experience, he was elected to theLegislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in 1949 as a Member of theSaskatchewan Cooperative Commonwealth Federation to reperesent theelectoral district Gull Lake. During this term, he served concurrently as the Miniser of Public Health and theMinister in charge of Health Services Planning Commission . He was re-elected to the Saskatchewan legislature in 1952 to represent Shaunavon and appointedMinister of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation in 1956. Prior to his federal political experience, he served overseas in 1915 duringWorld War 1 in the66th Battalion, Edmonton .
