She has had an active career on the stage, before she made her debut in
Jodhaa Akbar . She was the Juliet in 'Romeo & Juliet', a play directed by Atul Tiwari for Nadira Babbar's production. 'Sone ki Machli' is another play she acted in. She also played the lead part of Razaia Sajjad Zaheer in 'Roshnai ka Safar', under the able direction ofNadira Babbar . She was also part of the play 'Pencil se Brush Tak', based on the life of artistM. F. Hussain , again directed by Nadira Babbar. She has been actively associated with the theatre company 'Ek Jute'.Abir has also worked for a power packed performance in the television documentary 'Reflections in a Mirror' (2006). She played the central character in this experimental documentary film. The subject revolved around trials and tribulations of a person seeking her own true identity, based on the turmoil of human emotions.
She participated in acting lessons from Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Academy, Daisy Irani's Acting classes and a theatre workshop at Ek Jute. She is also well versed in Kathak and Hindustani classical music. Acting and performing is in Abir's DNA as she has strong lineage of acting and is the niece of
Kum Kum popular star of 1950s and 1960s.Her first behind the scene endeavor as an Assistant Director was for Rama - The Saviour in Bangkok (still to be released).
