Colegio Integral El Avila is a private school located in Caracas, Venezuela, that provides to its students an education in areas of arts, science, and technology. It is conceived as an integral institution that offers preschool, elementary, and secondary programs. It is a bilingual, and a mixed school with emphasis in the artistic, sports, socio-emotional, scientific, and technological development.[1] The school Colegio Integral El Avila is located at Centro de Artes Integradas, Urbanizacion Terrazas del Avila, La Urbina Norte, Caracas, Venezuela.[1]

Contents

History

It was founded in 1996 by a group of parents and educators. The construction of the first building began on April 13, 1996 with the placement of the symbolic stone, ceremony where participated future students, parents, and teachers, grandparents, and workers. On September 30, 1996 started the first school year of Colegio Integral el Avila. The school building was in construction for following three more years.[2]

Capable of using their knowledge and abilities to understand and unravel with attitude and scientific methodology the diverse problems that their environment has.

Capable of taking advantage of the technological resources and apply them in the resolution of their problems or activities.

Academic and vocational merit
The docents of the school “Colegio Integral El Avila” must have an academic formation in their specific teaching area.

The educator should possess not only academic merit but also must be a person with of real possibilities of being a role model of integrity and responsibility to his/her students.

Parents

Participative
The school gives importance to the parents’ expectative and opinions for the constant improvement of the institution.
Committed in the teaching and learning process
The teaching and learning process requires an effort between the home and school. In this school parents should take the commitment to support their children in the activities that allow their participation. Moreover, every parent should collaborate in all those activities that let academic experiences getting closer to the social, cultural, and economic reality of the country.
Parent workshop
Parents should take the necessity of receiving support from the school through the Parent Workshop with the purpose of getting better tools to use in their parental and guidance role.

Pre-school, elementary and secondary education

-Pre-school: Maternal, Prekinder, Kinder, and Preparatorio.
-Elementary: Grade 1 to grade 9.
-Secondary: Grade 10 to grade 11.
Each grade has two classrooms.

-Preschool: 20 students.
-Elementary and Secondary: 25 students.

Services

The main services offered by the school Colegio Integral El Avila are:

ESL Education
The students receive English classes every day, allowing the internalization and the meaningful use of this language.

Orientation Department
The school has a team of psychologies that provides academic, emotional and social support to any student that would need it.

Religion Formation
The spiritual dimensions of the students are fundamental to the school. For that reason, there is a religion formation from Preschool to Secondary. The majority of the community is catholic, and they have a chaplain that guides the celebration of the liturgical year. Additionally, the school attends the needs of the Jewish community. In this way, the school promotes understanding and respect among religions.

Schools of Art and Music
The school Colegio Integral El Avila has a curriculum that included artistic and cultural education from Preschool to Secondary in flute, cuatro (a typical instrument of Venezuela), guitar, piano, ceramic, drama, plastic arts, sculpture, and folklore.

Access to Technology
The students have access to technology within the curriculum in different subjects and activities. Especially in the computer and telecommunication areas, as tools to access the knowledge in a meaningful and up-to-date way.

Mixed Education
The school considers fundamental that the person should be educated in a mixed environment, where boys and girls can interact with respect and harmony. In coherence with the intention of attending all the needs and interests of each student, the school has activities for both girls and boys, especially in sports and extracurricular activities.

Cultural, Scientific, and Sport Activities
Part of the education is the voluntary, systematic, and responsible participation of the students in groups or clubs dedicated to cultural, scientific and sport activities. The school has diverse alternatives that allow each student to develop their abilities and concerns along with their peers. These activities take place during the regular school day.

Library and Documentation Centre
The school has two libraries and one documentation centre that supports every activity that required information resources or bibliographic services to all the students.

School Calendar
The school Colegio Integral El Avila has 200 days of classes.

Fulltime Program
The full school day is divided in two parts: 1- Academic schedule: 8:00 AM– 3:30 PM 2- Complementary schedule: 3:30 PM– 5:30 PM

All the activities start at 8:00 AM and end at 12:15 PM in Preschool, and at 3:30 PM in Elementary and Secondary. The complementary activities are oriented to the cultural and sport development of the students.

School Cafeteria
The school has a space where the students from Elementary to Secondary can eat their lunches everyday. At the moment, the food is provided by an external service.
