Carlos Arthur Sevilla, SJ (born August 9, 1935) is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He is the sixth and current Bishop of Yakima.

Biography

Carlos Sevilla was born in San Francisco, California, and entered the Society of Jesus, more commonly known as the Jesuits, in 1953. He studied at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, from where he obtained his Master's degree in Philosophy.

Sevilla was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1966, and made his solemn profession as a Jesuit on April 22, 1974. He also earned his Master's in Theology from Santa Clara University, and furthered his studies at the Jesuitenkolleg in Innsbruck and Catholic Institute of Paris.

On December 6, 1988, Sevilla was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of San Francisco and Titular Bishop of "Mina" by Pope John Paul II. He received episcopal consecration on January 25, 1989 from Archbishop John Quinn, with Bishops Mark Hurley and Michael Kaniecki, SJ, serving as co-consecrators.

He was later named the sixth Bishop of Yakima, Washington, on December 31, 1996. Sevilla is the second religious and the first Jesuit to hold that office.
