Purok

Purok

Purok (English: "Zone") is the main division of the barangay in the Philippines (Note that the term barangay is referred to the village of Western countries). Unlike sitios, it covers the overall part of a certain barangay. Usually, seven puroks that were administered by individual councilors and SK councilors, a political officer next to the Barangay Captain, divided the area of the whole barangay which is mostly found in rural communities. Barangays which are located in Poblacion areas are instead divided into several blocks and streets which numbers could be lower or higher than seven although the numbers of councilors and SK councilors remain the same of those in the rural places.
