Shawn Tellus (born August 26, 1983 in Sliema, Malta) is a professional footballer currently playing with Maltese Premier League side Qormi, on loan from Maltese Premier League side Marsaxlokk, he plays as a defender. Shawn has primarily been used as a central defender throughout his career, but has also filled in as a right back when required.

Playing career

liema Wanderers

Shawn began his career with his local side Sliema Wanderers nursery, where he progressed up the ranks until he eventually made the first team setup, in his first season 2001-02, Tellus made three first team appearances and continued the following season of 2002-03, again making a further three appearances.

With first team chances hard to come by, Tellus was loaned out to Balzan Youths from January, 2003 until the end of that season, making 22 appearances for the first team and establishing himself as a first team regular, he even scored his first senior goal, in a 2-1 victory of Valletta.

Tellus returned to Sliema Wanderers following his successful loan spell in the hope of finally forcing himself into the first team setup, however Shawn made one further appearance for the club, he totaled seven appearances during his time with the club, but never scored a first team goal.

Marsaxlokk

Tellus set up a new chapter in his career when in November, 2004 he signed for Marsaxlokk. Shawn made his way into the first team squad and made 15 appearances in his first season, and even scored his first goal for the club.

In his second season with the club, Shawn sustained a serious knee injury, which after a operation he was informed that he would be back playing first team football within two months, however Shawns season came to an end when his knee injury hit complications and became infected, Tellus had to have another three operations and spent two months in hospital. The disappointing season came to an end, with the player making just three appearances.

With Shawn spending the whole pre-season injured, and all in all missing over a years worth of football while his knee muscle recovered, he finally returned to training with Marsaxlokk during the 2006-07 season, and eventually into the first team, however Tellus struggled to make his way back into the squad, primerally due to Marsaxlokk making the purchases of some high quality players, who played in Shawns position. Despite this Tellus made five appearances during the season and was also a part of the title winning Marsaxlokk side.

With Shawn finally over his knee injury nightmare and Marsaxlokk losing the services of a few first team players, the Sliema born defender found himself back in the first team plans and would have made more appearances had it have not been for the partnership that Renato Conceição and Carlo Mamo had formed, Tellus made a total of nine appearances during the 2006-07 season, in which against the odds Marsaxlokk secured a second place finish and a place in the UEFA Cup.

Qormi

For the 2007-08 season, Tellus and Marsaxlokk team mate Reuben Gauci were allowed to join newly promoted side Qormi on a season long loan deal, in a bid for both players to regain match practice.

A few weeks later, both players were joined at their new club by another former Marsaxlokk team mate, in the shape of midfielder Chucks Nwoko, who joined from Sliema Wanderers. Nwoko had a spell alongside Tellus and Gauci at Marsaxlokk in 2006.
