Wilson McLean (
1937 –) is a Scottishillustrator andartist . He has illustrated primarily in the field ofadvertising , but has also provided cover art for musicalbum s,sport smagazine s (includingSports Illustrated ),novel s (such asIf the Earth...Were a Few Feet in Diameter ), and other commercial endeavours.His art, often in the surreal vein, has won him several
award s, including a prestigious Clio for his work in advertising. His illustrations have also been featured on four United States postage stamps.McLean began his artistic
career at aLondon screen-printing store at the age of fifteen years. He soon began attending a night-school for aspiring artists on his free time. After graduating from the artschool , McLean worked as a freelance illustrator for the publishing and advertising industry. He moved toNew York in1966 and has since taught at theSchool of Visual Arts andSyracuse University .He currently lives in Long Island with his longtime companion Rosemary Howard.
