History
The name is derived from the French for the
Linden (Limetree)(fr: tilleul) and theAsh (fr: frêne). [Source cassini [http://cassini.ehess.fr/cassini/fr/html/fiche.php?select_resultat=62251] ] and reference to the village (as Fresnum) is mentioned in 1207.Tilloloy was also noted in 1373 as Thillolay [Autre écriture de Tilloloy, source books.google.com [http://books.google.com/books?hl=fr&id=4EsfAAAAMAAJ&dq=fresnes-tilloloy&q=fresnes-tilloloy&pgis=1] ]
"Thilloloy" and "Fresnes" were joined as one commune sometime between 1790 and 1794 as the commune of Fresnes-Thilloloy.Traces of
Gallo-Roman settlement have been found in the area, and the Roman road (the “chaussée de Brunehaut” is nearby [Pruvot - « "Notice géographique et historique" » du 10 juin 1899]In 1346,
