Erotemata Civas Questiones

Erotemata Civas Questiones

"Erotemata Civas Questiones" was the first basic Greek grammar in use in Western Europe, written by Manuel Chrysoloras who was a pioneer is spreading Greek literature in Western Europe.

The "Erotemata" was first published in 1484 for the use of Chrysoloras' students in Florence. As Chrysoloras was the first to introduce Greek to Florence, the text starts with the basics of Greek grammar and vocabulary. Victor Raban printed an updated edition in 1531 and 1540. It enjoyed considerable success not only among his pupils in Florence and Bologna, but also among later leading humanists, being immediately studied by Thomas Linacre at Oxford and by Desiderius Erasmus at Cambridge.
