Henry Newton Brown, Jr. (born December 30, 1941), is a Louisiana Appellate judge, legal lecturer, and former district Attorney. He is serving his second 10-year elected term on the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal, based in Shreveport. Brown is a native of Bossier City, Louisiana, though born in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. He is the son of Henry Newton Brown, Sr., a civil engineer for the State of Louisiana for 44 years, and Louise Craighead Brown, who retired from the Bossier Parish school system as a school teacher.

Education

Brown attended Bossier High School, where he was an All-American Running Back. Upon graduating from Bossier High School in 1959, he went to Louisiana State University on a football scholarship.

He attended law school at Louisiana State University under Paul M. Hebert. After graduating from LSU Law School in 1966 with his Juris Doctorate, he joined the United States Army and served in the United States Army Special Forces in Vietnam. He was also an Army instructor at the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Paratrooper in Vietnam from 1966-1968 with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.

Career

In 1968, Brown was an Assistant District Attorney in New Orleans under the legendary Jim Garrison. He moved back to Bossier City and was the Chief Assistant District Attorney for the 26th Judicial District, which encompassed both Bossier and Webster Parishes. He later ran for the position in 1975 and was elected, serving as the elected District Attorney for 15 years.

Brown was elected in 1991 to the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal and now serves as the Chief Judge for the Circuit.
