A mutiny by Northern Nigerian soldiers that started at roughly mid-night on July 28 1966[1]. A reaction against the killings of Northern politicians and Officers by Igbo soldiers on January 15, 1966, it resulted in the assassination of some of the conspirators of the January 15th killings and the appointment of Yakubu Gowon as Head of State.
