- World Airways Flight 30
World Airways Flight 30 was aDC-10 airplane flying from Newark International Airport toBoston Logan International Airport (KBOS) inBoston ,Massachusetts , onJanuary 23 ,1982 . The plane crashed into shallow water at the end of Logan runway 15R following a landing too far down the runway (2800 feet past the threshold). Two out of 200 passengers died, and the crew survived. The airplane was written off after the incident. While a landing that far down the runway would have been acceptable under normal measures, the runway was ice-covered at the time. As a result, the pilots took action and steered the plane into the water at the end of the runway rather than hit the approach lights.
