Vinnie Burke (born Vincent Bucci) (
March 15 ,1921 –February 1 ,2001 ) was an Americanjazz bassist born inNewark, New Jersey .Burke played violin and guitar early in life, but while fighting in
World War II he lost a finger and switched to bass. In the second half of the 1940s he played with Joe Mooney,Tony Scott , andCy Coleman . Later he played with theSauter-Finegan Orchestra ,Tal Farlow ,Marian McPartland (1953),Don Elliott ,Vic Dickenson ,Gil Melle ,Bucky Pizzarelli ,John Mehegan ,Chris Connor ,Eddie Costa , andBobby Hackett . He led his own band in 1956, and led small combos into the 1980s.References
