- Queen's Bath
Queen's Bath is a unique ocean-connected swimming area in
Kauaʻi ,Hawaii . It is positioned on the edge of a cliff and the "pool" is surrounded byigneous rock . It is located on the north shore of Kauaʻi in the town of Princeville. The swimming area is accessible via a short trail. During the winter season, when the waves pick up, it is considered dangerous. Several people have died. When the surf is cooperating—usually in the summer months—the water is calm and clear. Views of the ocean and the rocky shoreline here are fantastic. Even when the surf is fairly calm, waves crash on the rocks shooting spray high into the air. Small fish and tiny sealife also call Queen's Bath home. The original "Queen's Bath" was in Kalapana on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was a lava tube that fell in and was supplied fresh water via fresh water springs. Only the Ali'i (Royalty) were allowed to enter the sacrade waters. There was guava and mango nearby. Prawns and crayfish and little guppies actually lived in there. Well, you know how that goes... It was abused and no one respected the beauty and uniqueness of this special place. It must have angered Pele! So before it was really poluted and destroyed Pele took action! In 1983 Kilauea Volcano erupted and in 1987 Pele took back "Queen's Bath". Kilauea has never stopped erupting till this very day. Only after this happened, is when the salt water pool on the island of Kauai was called "Queen's Bath"
