Biography:
Joo Yeon Sir was born in
Korea in1990 where she beganpiano lessons at the age of five andviolin lessons at the age of six. During her studies inKorea , she has performed at 12thMozart Spring Festival on the piano at the age of six, which was broadcast on national TV and has appeared as a soloist with theKorean Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of seven, as a result of winning 1st prize atKorean Philharmonic Orchestra Competition . She has been a prize winner at numerous competitions inKorea , including 1st prize winner at the very prestigious Eumyeon Music Magazine Piano Competition at the age of six, which appeared in "Eumyeon Music Magazine ".Since 2000, she has been living in
London and has been studying atThe Purcell School of Music , where she studies withDr. Felix Andrievsky (professor atRoyal College of Music ). She has performed at various venues across the UK, including theWigmore Hall , Brittens Theatre atRoyal College of Music and Bishopsgate Institute and has given concerts as soloist with many orchestras. She has attended master classes given byAlexander Arenkow ,Gyorgy Pauk ,Sylvia Rosenberg andIda Haendel .Joo Yeon Sir has been the winner of many national and international competitions; in 2006 she became Grand Prix Laureate at "Prof.
Nedjalka Simenova " International Competition for Young Violinists inHaskovo ,Bulgaria at the age of sixteen, where her performance was broadcast onRadio Bulgaria (BNR ).She has won many Young Musician titles, including
Harlow Rotary Club Young Musician of the Year in 2005 and 2006, Rotary District Young Musician of the Year 2007 andSevenoaks Young Musician of the Year 2007, which resulted a concert performance opportunity with Lydian Orchestra in summer 2007. She has also been awarded various prizes for performance including "the most outstanding performance in string section" atEaling Festival,Duke of Devonshire Award for best performance by aged 17 and under and Colonel Howes Award atEastbourne Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist Competition 2007, Challenge Cup and President’s Prize at North London Festival, and most recently she has received "Prix de l’Hospitalité Musicale 2007" fromMasters de Belesbat , resulting a recital in France in 2008. She has been supported by John E. Mortimer Award fromPhilharmonia Orchestra /Martin Musical Scholarship Fund and also received the RPS Emily Anderson Award (£2,500) from theRoyal Philharmonic Society in 2007. She has been also first prize winner at many concerto competitions throughout the UK, including East London Concerto Competition, Ealing Concerto Competition, North London Competition andMarlow Concerto Competition.Her future engagements in 2008 include a concert opportunity with an orchestra in
Oxfordshire , a recital atLeeds University and inParis , and her composition will be played atQueen Elizabeth Hall in theSouth Bank Centre in February 2008.Joo Yeon Sir is also a
composer and she has won composition awards, including 1st prize and title of [BBC /The Guardian Young Composer of the Year] 2005 at the age of fourteen for her composition "Conflict in Time", which has been performed atWigmore Hall ,Cadogan Hall byEndymion and has been broadcast onBBC Radio 3 .
