Israel Lipschutz

Israel Lipschutz (Hebrew: ישראל ליפשיץ) was a Jewish rabbi and one of the Acharonim. He wrote Tiferet Yisrael, a commentary on the Mishnah.

Tiferes Yisrael - A prominent commentary on the Mishna is Tiferes Yisrael by Rabbi Yisrael Lipschutz (1782 - 1860) of Danzig. It is often referred to as "Mishnayos Yachin uBoaz." It is subdivided into two parts, one more general and one more analytical, titled "Yachin" and "Boaz" respectively (after two large pillars in the Temple in Jerusalem).

This is considered to be one of the best and most useful commentaries on the Mishna.

In addition to his traditional Talmudic erudition, the author displays familiarity with contemporary (19th century) secular, scientific writings.
