Lt. Web Smith (Snipes) is a police detective called in to investigate the death of an American woman at a party in the offices of a Japanese corporation known as MicroCon. Former police captain John Connor (Connery) tells him that there's more going on than meets the eye. After a grueling investigation, Connor receives a small disc which contains the surveillance footage from the night of the murder. It is later revealed that the disc had been heavily edited so as to falsely implicate Eddie, who is son of a fabulously wealthy Japanese businessman. It appeared that whoever killed this woman wanted two things: Eddie to be tried for murder and the Senator, played by Ray Wise, to be held responsible as well.
Distribution and response
The Japanese release of the movie has an edited dialogue between Web Smith and Jingo Asakuma. In the original version, Jingo says, "Do you know the term 'hisabetsu
burakumin '?", referring to burakumin minority in Japan. In the Japanese release, the original dialogue is replaced by "Do you know the term 'racial prejudice'?" No other changes to the dialogue were made.Fact|date=April 2008Cast
