- Vijay Siva
Born to Smt. Akhila Siva and Sr. A.N. Siva on 29th March, 1967, Shri.Vijay Siva had his schooling in the reputed Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School and he graduated with a First Class from Vivekananda College, further had his Masters degree in Commerce from Madurai Kamaraj University.
Born in a family of Musicians, it was but a natural course to becoming a professional musician. His father was an amateur stage actor. Mother Mrs.Akila Siva was agold medalist from the Music College. Shri.Vijay Siva is also related to eminent veena player Shri.S. Balachander. With such a musical surrounding it wasn't surprising that he chose music as his profession. Shri.Vijay Siva is also adept in playing Mrudangam, in fact he had his class in percussion with the most revered Shri.Kumbakonnam Rajappa Iyer. Vijay Siva is an eminent disciple of Sangita Kalanidhi shri.D.K. Jayaraman. In fact the singer has adopted the Bani of his guru, steeped in classicism and pronunciation.
An awardee of the Government of India Cultural Scholarship for vocal music from 1979 to 1987.He has secured more than hundred prizes both for Music and for Murudangam including the first prize for Thevaram,Trichuvachakam and Thirupugazh. He has won awards and honour from Tamil Isai Sangam,Chennai and first prizes in Classical and Light Classical Music Competitions conducted by AIR in 1984.
He has given a number of concerts in important centres in India and abroad and he has participated in the Music Festivals of Sangeet Natak Academy -one at Bhubhaneshwar as a Mridangist and another at Chennai as Vocalist.
Passed the Higher Grade Examination with distinction in Vocal Music conducted by the Tamil Nadu Government in 1984, and Sangeet Alankar Course conducted by the Gandharva Mahaviyalaya, New Delhi.
Has recorded for leading Cassette Companies.
An ‘A’ Grade Vocalist in AIR. Toured USA ,Singapore and Canada many a times. Awarded “Youth Award for Excellence” by Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Trust in 1995. Awarded the title “ISAI PEROLI” Karthik Fine Arts for the year 1995. First Recipient of “Kalki Krishnamurthy Award (1996)” presented by Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Trust, Chennai. Recently he was awarded by Former Judge of the Madras High Court T.V. Masilamani the title of "Padma Sadhana" for his service to Classical Music.
He was the founder Secretary of the Youth Association for Classical Music (YACM) an organization to promote young Musicans and Rasikas.
Presented Carnatic Music based serial for Satellite Televisions.
