Yuriy Polyakov

Yuriy Polyakov

Yuriy Sergeyevich Polyakov (Russian: Юрий Сергеевич Поляков, born September 3, 1980 in Moscow, Soviet Union) is a Russian-American scientist at USPolyResearch. He is best known for his work in chemical engineering (theory of filtration processes, mathematical modeling of chemical reactors).

Biography

Polyakov wrote his first scientific paper when he was a freshman student at the Moscow State University of Environmental Engineering. [cite journal|author=Polyakov YuS, Maksimov ED, Polyakov VS|title=On the Design of Microfilters|journal=Theoretical Foundations of Chemical Engineering|volume=33|issue=1|pages=64–71|year=1999|url=http://www.uspolyresearch.com/~ypolyakov/docs/Microfiltration_TFCE_English.pdf] In April 1998, he moved to the United States. Polyakov received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems with Summa Cum Laude from Excelsior College in 2002 and Master of Science in Computer Science from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2003, where he carried out scientific research in computer science and computational mathematics. Scientific achievements

Main results in chemical engineering include the development of a novel filtration process – depth membrane filtration, [cite journal|author=Polyakov YuS|title=Hollow Fiber Membrane Adsorber: Mathematical Model|journal=Journal of Membrane Science|volume=280|pages=610–623|year=2006|doi=10.1016/j.memsci.2006.02.019] [cite journal|author=Polyakov YuS|title=Phenomenological Theory of Depth Membrane Filtration|journal=Chemical Engineering Science|volume=62|pages=1851–1860|year=2007|doi=10.1016/j.ces.2006.12.025] [cite journal|author=Polyakov YuS|title=Use of Cake Deposition to Improve the Efficiency of Ultra- and Microfiltration Plants|journal=Theoretical Foundations of Chemical Engineering|volume=41|issue=5|pages=475–482|year=2007|doi=10.1134/S0040579507050041] systematic study of nonuniform particle deposition on the inner and outer surfaces of ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes, and mathematical modeling of coupled heat and mass transfer with chemical conversions. [cite journal|author=Kholpanov LP, Polyakov YuS|title=Mathematical Modeling of Turbulent Heat and Mass Transfer with Chemical Conversions|journal=Theoretical Foundations of Chemical Engineering|volume=40|issue=5|pages=454–464|year=2006|doi=10.1134/S0040579506050022] Main results in computer science and computational mathematics include the development of an approximate method for nonlinear differential and integrodifferential equations [cite journal|author=Polyakov YuS, Dil'man VV|title=Approximate Method for Nonlinear Differential and Integrodifferential Equations|journal=AIChE Journal|volume=52|issue=11|pages=3813–3824|year=2006|doi=10.1002/aic.10995] and development of a feedback algorithm for switch location with application to network design. [cite journal|author=Verkhovsky BS, Polyakov YuS|title=Feedback Algorithm for the Single-Facility Minisum Problem|journal=Annals of the European Academy of Sciences|volume=1|pages=127–136|year=2003|url=http://www.uspolyresearch.com/~ypolyakov/docs/Feedback_Algorithm_Single_Facility_Minisum_Annals.pdf] Serge Timashev and Yuriy Polyakov are currently developing a phenomenological theory for the analysis of natural time and space series with stochastically varying components, Flicker-Noise Spectroscopy, that may be used for problems such as the diagnosis of health conditions and earthquake prediction.
