worriedaboutsatan is an electronica band from Leeds, UK. Their music has been tipped as the 'future' [http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/music-gigs/GIG-REVIEW-Worriedaboutsatan.4366228.jp] of post-rock, as a result of their combination of guitars with 'IDM flavoured beats' [http://www.thesilentballet.com/dnn/Reviews/2008/January/tabid/120/ctl/Details/mid/531/ItemID/1095/Default.aspx] and 'beautiful ambient music' [http://www.sandmanmagazine.co.uk/sandman/issues/128/features/worriedaboutsatan.html] .

History

The band comprises Gavin Miller and Tom Ragsadle, who met whilst both attending Leeds College of Music in 2005. worriedaboutsatan began as a side project for Miller, but later became the joint focus of Miller and Ragsdale after their other band, Johnny Poindexter, split up.

The band's mixture of rock and electronic genres can be attributed to Miller and Ragsdale's musical influences, which give equal importance to post-rock bands such as Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai as well as electronic dance music artists, such as Underworld and Trentemøller. worriedaboutsatan's sound, in reflection of their musical tastes, is in their own words, an attempt 'to fuse elements of everything we listen to - glitch, techno, electronica, rock [and] metal'. [http://www.subba-cultcha.com/article_feature.php?id=5323] worriedaboutsatan also employ the use of samples from a wide variety of sources, such as a speech given by Patricia Hearst (as featured in the "EP1" track, 'Patty Hearst') and a spoken performance of a Siegfried Sassoon poem, sampled in a new track called 'Evil Dogs'.

worriedaboutsatan's music has appeared on several BBC Radio shows, including Steve Lamacq's show on 6Music and Tom Robinsons' "Introducing" [http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/tom_robinsons_introducing/tracklisting_20071209.shtml] and Mary Anne Hobb's "Experimental Show", both on Radio 1. Their music was also featured in the 23rd July 2008 episode of the popular British soap, Coronation Street.

Releases

The band have so far released two EPs and one single. The first EP, self-titled but known as "EP1", was released in 2006 and is now out of print. It is currently available online on the worriedaboutsatan Last.fm page [http://www.last.fm/music/worriedaboutsatan] . The single, 'An Infinity of Oncoming Lights' was released in 2006, and is also available on Last.fm.

The second EP, entitled "EP02", was released in late 2007 to a largely positive critical response, with solid recommendation from Traffic Magazine (March 2008) and The Silent Ballet [http://www.thesilentballet.com/dnn/Reviews/2008/January/tabid/120/ctl/Details/mid/531/ItemID/1095/Default.aspx] . It was mastered at Transition Studios [http://www.dub-plates.org/] , who have also worked with Burial and Kode9.

worriedaboutsatan are also featured on the second On The Bone Records [http://www.onthebonerecords.com/] compilation, along with other popular Leeds artists such as This Et Al, Pulled Apart By Horses and Benjamin Wetherill.

worriedaboutsatan have recently completed a remix of a Maybeshewill track, 'Takotsubo', which can currently be streamed from worriedaboutsatan's MySpace page. [http://www.myspace.com/worriedaboutsatan]

worriedaboutsatan are distributed by the Leeds label Gizeh Records, alongside bands that include Her Name is Calla and Glissando.

Live Shows

The band use a desktop PC to run the electronic elements, whilst the two members either play guitars or control the PC via a MIDI controller. Earlier shows found the band performing on the floor directly in front of the audience, giving Ragsdale the ability to walk out into the crowd whilst playing guitar [ [http://www.bbc.co.uk/leeds/content/articles/2007/06/25/music_gig_review_worriedaboutsatan_feature.shtml] . However, recent performances have seen the role of guitarist given solely to Miller, whilst Ragsdale takes control of the PC and electronic elements [ [http://www.contactmusic.com/new/home.nsf/webpages/castsx01x02x08] ] .

Amongst the many bands that worriedaboutsatan have performed with include iLiKETRAiNS, Yndi Halda, Ólafur Arnalds and Maybeshewill; future gigs see the band supporting Dälek and The British Expeditionary Force.

Trivia

The band's name, worriedaboutsatan, is taken from a song of the same name by Belgian rock band dEUS. It was a B-side to their 1996 single 'Theme From Turnpike' [ [http://www.hotellounge.com/disco/single_turnpike.htm [wwwcs3 theme from turnpike ] ]

According to the band themselves, the names of five different people were inserted into each track on 'EP02' but are barely audible.

The band's previous desktop computer was named 'Robert Dell', although Robert was recently retired to home use.

The song 'Morwenna' is named after a friend of Gavin's after he forgot her birthday in 2006.
