Cape Koritskiy

Cape Koritskiy

Cape Koritskiy ( _ru. Мыс Корицкий "Mys Koritskiy") is the northernmost point of Iturup, one of the Kuril Islands. In Japanese, the cape is called either nihongo|Cape Kamoiwakka|カモイワッカ岬|Kamoiwakka-misaki or nihongo|Cape Kamuiwakka|カムイワッカ岬|Kamuiwakka-misaki.

The South Krill Islands, including Iturup, are currently administrated by Russia. However, Japan also claims these islands. ("See Kuril Islands dispute.") Since the cape is the northernmost point of the South Krills, it is also the northernmost point under Japanese claim.

Under Russian administration, the cape is a part of Kurilsky District, Sakhalin Oblast. Russia sets a wilderness area on the northeast part of the island, making a public access to the cape difficult.
