Doctor Nikidik

Doctor Nikidik is a fictional character mentioned in "The Marvelous Land of Oz". Nothing is known of him other than that he is the inventor of the Famous Wishing Pills.

Classic Books

Tip believes that this is the name of the crooked magician visited by Mombi, leading to a theory first proposed by Lee Speth that he is the same character as Dr. Pipt, who seems to be that person. Speth gives credence to the possibility that Tip may be mistaken and Nikidik is indeed another character, that the character has two names, such as Nikidik Pipt, or that one name is a false name used by the magician.

Modern Works

A character of this name also appears in Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel "". He is a human professor brought in to replace the murdered Goat, Doctor Dillamond, as the Life Science teacher at Shiz University's Crage Hall. During his first lesson, he brings a caged Lion Cub into the classroom, and states that he intneds to prevent it from ever learning to speak. This enrages Elphaba (the future Wicked Witch of the West), who is an Animal Rights supporter, and also produces a shocked reaction from several other students who steal the Cub from Nikidik and set it free. It is implied that this Cub grows up to be the Cowardly Lion.
