Arthur Fawssett Alston

Arthur Fawssett Alston (1872 - 1954) was the third Bishop of Middleton from 1938 until 1943 [The Times, Monday, Aug 02, 1943; pg. 6; Issue 49613; col C Ecclesiastical News Suffragan Bishop Of Middleton to retire] Educated at Clare College, Cambridge and Ridley Hall he was ordained priest in 1896 [“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] . A curacy at "St Simon’s Southsea" was followed with Yorkshire incumbencies. From there he became Rural Dean then Archdeacon of Hastings before becoming a Canon Residentiary of Manchester Cathedral, from which post he ascended to the Episcopate. His son Rex Alston was a famous cricket commentator.
