Ettington railway station

Ettington railway station

Ettington railway station was a railway station located one mile to the north of Ettington, Warwickshire, England. Opened on 1st July 1873 the station was situated on the East & West Junction Railway's route from Broom to Fenny Compton. The station had two platforms and one track for each platform. Most of the line was single track but there were two there to allow engines and carriages to pass. There were three sidings including one each to the goods shed and cattle pens. Four years after opening the station had it's passenger service withdrawn until 22nd February 1885. The station closed on 11th November 1963 due to the Beeching Axe although through traffic continued to gain access to the Great Western Railway until 5th July 1965.

During the Second World War the station was used to transport munitions and troops to nearby RAF Wellesbourne Mountford. There is little evidence of the station left apart from one of the goods sheds and the site is now used as a timber merchants and stables.
