Porcius (fem. Porcia) was the
nomen of the "gens" Porcii, who apparently originated inTusculum [Tacitus, Annals XI.23] .The gens was divided into three families during the republic, bearing the cognomens Laeca, Licinus and Cato. The most well-known line is the Cato cognomen, who were descended from Marcus Porcius Cato (
Cato the Elder ).During the imperial period of Rome three more families, bearing the cognomens Festus, Latro and Septimus (seventh), occurred.
