The Itals were a reggae vocal group formed in 1976 by Alvin "Keith" Porter, Ronnie Davis, and Lloyd Ricketts (the latter two formerly of The Tennors),cite web |url=http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:3ifpxqq5ldte~T1 |title=The Itals Biography |accessdaymonth=08 February |accessyear=2008 |author=Steve Huey |year= |month= |work=allmusic.com |publisher=Macrovision Corporation |quote= ] all of whom had previously also recorded as solo artists.cite book |last=Larkin |first=Colin |title=The Virgin Encyclopedia of Reggae |year= 1998 |publisher=Virgin Books |isbn=0-7535-0242-9 ] All three had worked together in the late 1960s in The Westmorelites. The group recorded several albums through the late 1970s and 1980s, with Ronnie Davis going on to a successful solo career. Their debut single, "Ina Dis Time", is regarded as the group's finest work, and topped the Jamaican chart.cite book |last=Barrow |first=Steve |coauthors= Dalton, Peter |title=Reggae: The Rough Guide |year= 1997 |publisher=Rough Guides |isbn=1-85828-247-0 ] 1987's "Rasta Philosophy" was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Reggae Album. The line-up changed over the years, with former solo artist David Isaacs joining in 1987 when Ricketts was sentenced to a prison term, preventing him from travelling to the United States.cite book |last=Thompson |first=Dave |title=Reggae & Caribbean Music |year= 2002 |publisher=Backbeat Books |isbn=0-87930-655-6 ] Davis left the group in 1994, and was replaced by Porter's daughter Kada.
