The United Isshin-ryū Karate Association (UIKA) is an organization based in the United States that is devoted to practicing the Isshin-ryū style the way Master Tatsuo Shimabuku intended.
Origin
The UIKA was founded by Harold Mitchum, Ed Johnson, Arcenio J. Advincula, and Milledge Murphey in 1977. [ [http://www.isshin-ryu.com/isshinryu_karate.htm Isshin-ryu history] ]
Current Status
The UIKA is currently directed by Master Harold Mitchum.
Each year the UIKA holds a symposium where the members practice the kata of Isshin-ryū and discuss the bunkai for each kata. Several awards such as Instructor of the Year and Youth Contributor Award are given each year to outstanding practicioners.
