Robert Harris Carnwath Dalzell, 11th Earl of Carnwath (
July 1 1847 –8 March 1910 ) was a Scottish nobleman and soldier.He was the eldest of five children born to Colonel Robert Alexander George Dalzell (1816–1878) and Sarah Bushby Harris (1821–1916). His mother was the daughter of John Harris RN (1782–1850), Treasurer of the London District of
Upper Canada , and Amelia Ryerse, UE (1798–1882). The Harris family seat of Eldon House was a major social centre of the District capital ofLondon, Ontario . His paternal grandfather wasRobert Alexander Dalzell, 6th Earl of Carnwath , having been restored to the title by an Act of Parliament in 1825. The 5thEarl of Carnwath had been found guilty of treason for taking part in theJacobite rising of 1715, and though later pardonned, his titles fell underattainder until restored to his grandson. Three of Robert Dalzell's uncles succeeded to the title before he inherited it in 1887.On
19 August 1873 he married Emily Sullivan Hippisley (1853–1889) and they had four children:* Lady Ida Elizabeth Dalzell (

*Ronald Arthur Dalzell, 12th Earl of Carnwath (1883–1931)Dalzell served with the
Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders , rising to the rank ofLieutenant-Colonel . Arepresentative peer for Scotland, he died while walking from his home, Carnwath House,Fulham , to theHouse of Lords . He was succeeded by his second (but only surviving) son, Ronald.References
