Bees in Paradise

Bees in Paradise

Bees in Paradise (1944) is a British musical comedy film, directed by Val Guest, starring Arthur Askey. It is set on a mysterious island in the South Atlantic where scantily clad warrior women hold all the power and men are regarded as disposable beings useful for breeding purposes. Comic scenes result when four airmen, including Arthur Askey, parachute in and the latter becomes the object of native woman Anne Shelton's desires.

Ostensibly set on a tropical island, the movie was filmed on location in Torquay. Askey records in his autobiography that whilst filming the crew was strafed by the Luftwaffe and he was slightly injured as a result (Askey 1975: 129-130).
