- George Friel
George Friel (1910-1975) was a Scottish writer. He was born in
Glasgow as the fourth of seven children, and was educated atSt. Mungo's Academy andGlasgow University . After a period of service in the army, he spent the rest of his life working as a teacher in Glasgow.George Friel wrote several novels including Grace and Miss Partridge (1969), Mr Alfred MA (1972) and An Empty House (1974).Friel's fourth novel - Mr Alfred M.A. - made it to the "100 Best Scottish Books of all Time" [ [http://www.list.co.uk/articles/100-best-scottish-books/show:100/ 100 Best Scottish Books | Articles | The List ] ] list.
