Various writers have compared Xynomavro to Bordeaux, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Chianti,pinot noir , "etc.". This grape is primarily cultivated in Naoussa,Goumenissa , Amyntaio,Rapsani ,Trikomo ,Siatista ,Velvendo , and, on a lesser scale, onMount Athos , at Ossa, Ioannina, Magnisia, Kastoria and Trikala.
