1861 battle fought by colonial Australian squatters against the two local united indigenous tribes the Jagera and Turrbal [p.186-188 Colonial History Archive, P. Winters, Brisbane City Library, 1967] in the area of what is now known asIndooroopilly , in the state ofQueensland . The battle takes its name from the aboriginal word for "water flowing through creek" or "gully" because of the place where the battle was fought. The squatters, led by the English immigrant Edward Pierce suffered heavy losses with only three making their way to safety [pg.32, "A Colonial Life" Bill Whitehead, Ivermann Press 1938] . Edward Pierce survived the battle, but did not venture back to the area.References
