He races in the 250cc and 125cc series for Honda. Like many of his compatriots, Yuki Takahashi developed his talents through an HRC Racing Scolarship, a program which supports young riders and aims to help them into the top level of competition. His uncle, Kunimitsu Takahashi was a former Formula One driver and Grand Prix motorcycle road racer.

MotoGP

Takahashi's valiant efforts with clearly inferior machinery (as Honda has abandoned developing their 250cc competition motorcycle since 2005) have been rewarded, for the 2009 season he has been handed a MotoGP spot for Honda on his Team Scot, thus replacing his former teammate at 250cc Andrea Dovizioso who heads for HRC's official Repsol Honda outfit.
