Samuel Joseph Aquila is the seventh and current Bishop of the
Roman Catholic Diocese of Fargo (known as the Diocese of Jamestown from 1889-1897) inNorth Dakota . He was born onSeptember 24 ,1950 inBurbank, California and ordained a priest in 1976 in theRoman Catholic Archdiocese of Denver . From 1999-2001 he was the first rector of the St. John Vianney Seminary in Denver and Chief Executive Officer of Our Lady of the New Advent Theological Institute. In 2000,Pope John Paul II named him aMonsignor . In 2001 he was namedcoadjutor Bishop of Fargo and became Bishop of Fargo onMarch 18 ,2002 , succeeding Bishop James Sullivan. In 2005-2006, he was named interim administrator of the Diocese of Sioux Falls inSouth Dakota until the consecration ofPaul J. Swain as Bishop of Sioux Falls.
