In 1938 he joined Red Norvo's band [ [http://www.parabrisas.com/d_norvor.php Red Norvo biography] on "Solid!" site] [ [http://www.parabrisas.com/d_allent.php Terry Allen biography] on "Solid!" site] , doing the vocals on a number of Norvo's recordings, especially "I Get Along Without You Very Well," a big Norvo hit in 1939][cite book]
