simyo belongs to the Dutch telecommunications group KPN, the fourth-ranking mobile telephone operator in Europe. The KPN group has over 32 million customers in Germany, Belgium, Holland and Spain, where it has been operating under the trade name of simyo as a virtual mobile operator (VMO) since 29 January 2008 through the Orange network.
simyo bases its business strategy on management via the Internet, using a model similar to that originally made popular by online banks. This business structure permits considerable cost savings, which the operator passes on in its rates. Another aspect that helps to cut costs is that they do not subsidise terminals.
About simyo Spain
simyo – in lower case letters - (www.simyo.es) is a virtual mobile telephone operator, that is low cost but full service. What does this mean? Although it is a virtual mobile operator, it offers the same services as conventional operators since it has all their systems and can offer their services at a lower price. In fact, FACUA, the consumers’ association, cites simyo as one of the most affordable operators for calls in general terms, after a comparative study in July 2008.
simyo is currently the only mobile telephone operator in Spain that allows users to manage their line completely online: register, activate voicemail, check usage, buy free terminals… all this can be done online, doing away with intermediaries – sales outlets, for instance - in order to reduce their costs structure and offer more affordable rates than other operators. Besides low rates, simyo has the great advantage of not imposing compulsory minimum usage levels, monthly fees or fixed term contracts. Since its launch simyo has made online cancellation one of their differential factors in respect of competitors. Customers can cancel their subscription at any time, anywhere in the world, with just a click.
At simyo all the phones are free, i.e., no terminal is blocked by the operator. A SIM card for any operator works with these mobiles.
simyo supports free mobiles and for this reason they run a scheme that subsidises the liberalisation of terminals – www.emancipatumovil.es. What’s more, all the mobiles and modems sold on their website are completely free.
simyo have recently announced that they are going to undertake a series of
