Lavender (TV series)

Lavender is a Taiwanese drama aired between the years 2001 and 2002. The show stars Ambrose Hsu as Leo/Ji Qing Chuan, Tammy Chen as Liang Yi Xin, Wang Jian Long as Xiao Tong and Penny Lin as Maggie.

Plot summary

Ji Qing Chuan and Liang Yi Xin are classmates in their elementary school. Yi Xin is a weak child due to an illness. Her weak and fragile look triggered Ji Qing Chuan to protect and take care of her from their stubborn classmates. When Qing Chuan and Yi Xin's friendship started to develop, Qing Chuan has to leave for the US for good. But he left Yi Xun with a promise of coming back on her 20th birthday. As a reminder of their promise for each other, Qing Chuan gave her a bottle with a lavender plant that will only blossom after 20 years. 20 years had passed and Yi Xun is still waiting for the return of her childhood lover. Then, a famous popstar named Leo came and visited Taiwan. Due to anticipation and desperation of seeing Qing Chuan again, Yi Xun wanted to know if Leo is Qing Chuan or if the coming of the popstar is just purely coincidental to Qing Chuan's promise of returning at her nearing 20th birthday. She and friend Xiao Tong went to Leo's concert with her lavender bottle. Yi Xun was now sure that Leo was Ji Qing Chuan. She and Xiao Tong went to the backstage to check on Leo but with no luck. Yi Xun just gave her lavender bottle to Peter, Leo's handler, who just threw it away. but as fate would have it, Leo saw the bottle in the waste basket and immediately ran after her but with no chance of meeting, but it confirmed that he was really Qing Chuan. Leo did his promise and went to see Yi Xun on her 20th birthday at the elementary school. It was also in this time that Qing Chuan told Yi Xun that he already has a girlfriend named Maggie. Yi Xun also learned of the heartbreaking past Qing Chuan had when he was still in the US and that Maggie was there for him. But when old feelings were starting to rekindle between Qing Chuan and Yi Xun and even confirmed themselves going steady, Maggie came back and was ready to stand up to her position as Leo's/Qing Chuan's girlfriend to his dismay. To make things more complicated, Xiao Tong expressed his feelings towards Yi Xun and built her a glass house where she could plant lavender buds. But when Yi Xun's sister died because of the illness that she also carries, Yi Xun knew she's not going to live long. Xiao Tong now knew of her illness and offered to take care of her and had a specialist contacted in Australia. Yi Xun only agreed to Xiao Tong's offer because she doesn't want Qing Chuan to know of her illness and she doesn't want to make Qing Chuan feel the same hardships he had when he was still in the US. Yi Xun and Qing Chuan made their final good byes at a small restaurant where Qing Chuan, ignorant of her real condition, assumed that Yi Xun only had a fever at that time. Xiao Tong and Maggie, both waiting outside the restaurant, had a small talk where Xiao Tong mentioned Yi Xun's real condition to Maggie's surprise. Qing Chuan was about to go back to America with Maggie when he met up with Xiao Tong and Yi Xun who was in a wheel chair. They told Qing Chuan that Yi Xun was just not feeling well and that everything was fine. when they were on their own ways again, Maggie, who knew that Qing Chuan truly loves Yi Xun even before she came to his life, can't keep her gulity feelings anymore and told Qing Chuan the whole truth. Qing Chuan ran after Yi Xun and told her that he doesn't care if she dies tomorrow, because all he wants to do is to love her. Xiao Tong let Yi Xun go because he knew that that is all she wants. She and Qing Chuan lived together preparing themselves with what might happen. They got married and Qing Chuan quit his stardom just to be with her, praying for a miracle. When everything was subtly going into their places and to Yi Xun's happiness, she got pregnant. Qing Chuan wanted to abort the child to keep Yi Xun longer, but she insisted thay they should not because the baby was the proof that their love for each other was real. Anticipating what might happen,Yi Xun died with the unborn baby while Qing Chuan was singing the winning piece he wrote for Yi Xun.
