Riot of Rostock-Lichtenhagen

Riot of Rostock-Lichtenhagen

The Riot of Rostock-Lichtenhagen took place in August 1992 in Rostock, in its quarter Lichtenhagen. It is one of the most extreme xenophobic riots in post-war German history. Stones and Molotov cocktails have been thrown onto an asylum house. Despite nobody has been killed like in other cities. The responsibility of media and politics in these riots still remain unclear. The refugees got no or limited access to bathrooms, what led to an escalation of the social circumstances before the riots. Moreover people got paid by TV stations and photographs for several actions.
