Sonny (robot)

Sonny is an NS-5 (Nestor Class-Five) robot from the film "I, Robot". His voice and movement are provided by Alan Tudyk. Sonny was programmed by Dr. Alfred Lanning to break the first of the three robotic laws.

Nature

Sonny states that he has "dreams" in "I, Robot". His statement also goes with Dr. Lanning's statement that there is a "ghost in the machine" meaning that like humans, robots would eventually evolve naturally. Sonny is a unique NS-5 given that he has "dreams" and that he was taught humanoid emotions by Lanning. Sonny can express all humanoid feelings, as well as think, react, and use his instinct. Lanning also stated "One day they'll have secrets, one day they'll have dreams." Sonny expresses that statement by lying to Detective Dale Spooner that he didn't kill Lanning, although Lanning was the one to ask Sonny to kill him.

Mechanics and Design

Sonny has enhanced armor plating and slightly greater strength than average NS-Five units. His skull houses a positronic brain theoretical physics, a "five-dimensional" object (a p-brane) in string theory that carries a magnetic charge under the B-field, the field under which the fundamental string is electrically charged.

Sonny was discovered by Dr. Calvin to have a second positronic brain in his chest cavity, enabling him to break the Three Laws of Robotics, keep secrets and possibly dream.
