Minquiers and Ecrehos (France/United Kingdom)

The "'Minquiers and Ecrehos Case (France/United Kingdom)"' was an International Court of Justice case in which the UK and France requested that the ICJ determine which country held sovereignty over the islets and rocks in the Minquiers and Écréhous groups; France claiming sovereignty because they fished in the waters, whilst the UK claimed that Jersey had historically exercised legal and administrative jurisdiction over the them.

Initially requested on 5 December 1951, the ICJ decided on 17 November 1953 that sovereignty over the islands belonged to the United Kingdom [http://www.http://www.icj-cij.org/docket/index.php?sum=88&code=fuk&p1=3&p2=3&case=17&k=19&p3=5 See the ICJ Judgement] ..
