Born in
Denver, Colorado and raised inOrange, California , Doug Fields earned hisBachelors degree fromVanguard University and hisMaster of Divinity degree (Mdiv) fromFuller Theological Seminary . He served as a youth pastor atMariners Church before becoming the Pastor to Students at Saddleback Church in 1992, where he earned a national reputation for his practical ideas and strategies at Rick Warren's famedmegachurch . With more than 25 years of youth ministry experience, he has authored or coauthored more than 50 books, including "Purpose Driven Youth Ministry" and "Help! I'm a Student Leader", eventually becoming "the most famous youth pastor in the world." "Purpose Driven Youth Ministry", which Fields’ wrote in 1998, is still considered required reading in manyevangelical Christian university and seminaryyouth ministry courses.In 2006, Fields changed roles from Saddleback's Pastor of Student Ministries to Pastor of Life Development (which oversees the children, student, and college ministries). He is also a teaching pastor at Saddleback and preaches in Warren’s absence. Fields still participates in various high school ministry events at the church and remains connected to the youth ministry. He is the founder of "SimplyYouthMinistry.com" and a frequent speaker at
Youth Specialties and other national youth ministry conferences. Fields resides in southern Orange County with his wife and three children.
