Doug Fields

Doug Fields is a noted author and speaker and currently serves as the Pastor of Life Development at Saddleback Church in Orange County, California.

Biography

Born in Denver, Colorado and raised in Orange, California, Doug Fields earned his Bachelors degree from Vanguard University and his Master of Divinity degree (Mdiv) from Fuller Theological Seminary. He served as a youth pastor at Mariners Church before becoming the Pastor to Students at Saddleback Church in 1992, where he earned a national reputation for his practical ideas and strategies at Rick Warren's famed megachurch. With more than 25 years of youth ministry experience, he has authored or coauthored more than 50 books, including "Purpose Driven Youth Ministry" and "Help! I'm a Student Leader", eventually becoming "the most famous youth pastor in the world." "Purpose Driven Youth Ministry", which Fields’ wrote in 1998, is still considered required reading in many evangelical Christian university and seminary youth ministry courses.

In 2006, Fields changed roles from Saddleback's Pastor of Student Ministries to Pastor of Life Development (which oversees the children, student, and college ministries). He is also a teaching pastor at Saddleback and preaches in Warren’s absence. Fields still participates in various high school ministry events at the church and remains connected to the youth ministry. He is the founder of "SimplyYouthMinistry.com" and a frequent speaker at Youth Specialties and other national youth ministry conferences. Fields resides in southern Orange County with his wife and three children. Fields’ oldest child, Torie, is currently a student at Biola University.

Doug is an avid Twitter user and has often been heard on his award winning podcast [www.simplyyouthministry.com/podcast] sharing about his love for the micro-blogging tool as well as his sarcastic love of blogging. Though Doug does not have his own blog, his collegue, Josh Griffin, hosts a blog, [www.morethandodgeball.com] in which Doug often quotes

Also heard on the SYM Podcast [www.simplyyouthministry.com/podcast] Doug has admitted to being a long time fan of the 90's boy-band sensation Hanson and has in fact written them numerous times with requests to be involved in their shows. Doug claims to have never received a response from the band.
