Father Andreas Hönisch
SJM (October 3 ,1930 -January 25 ,2008 ) was the founder and Superior General ofServi Jesu et Mariae , and co-founder of the Katholische Pfadfinderschaft Europas.Hönisch was born in
Habelschwerdt ,Silesia , now inPoland . He attended a Jesuitgrammar school and entered theSociety of Jesus in 1952. From 1958 to 1960, as a scholastic, he was inJapan under the then-provincialPedro Arrupe ,SJ . He returned toGermany for health reasons, and in 1963 he wasordain ed a priest by thebishop of Berlin ,Archbishop Alfred Bengsch . He finished histertianship inParay-le-Monial , and was first appointedchaplain at aBerlin grammar school, then parochialvicar of aparish inGießen, Hesse .While at this post, in 1976, Hönisch co-founded the
Catholic Scouts of Europe (KPE). His teaching and youth work brought him into conflict with his superiors, which led to his expulsion from theSociety of Jesus . He was also a giftedmusician , organ player andchoir director , and later said that he was unable to sing for one year following his expulsion.He was incardinated as diocesan priest into the
diocese of Augsburg ,Bavaria . With the consent of thebishop of Augsburg ,Monsignor Josef Stimpfle , he founded the new order of theServi Jesu et Mariae (SJM, Servants of Jesus and Mary) in 1988. The first members of the order came from the Catholic Scouts of Europe founded by Hönisch. The SJM were recognized as aCongregation of Papal Right in 1994. The congregation runs aboarding school in northern Germany and is engaged in the Pastoral care of the Katholische Pfadfinderschaft Europas.Hönisch died on
January 25 ,2008 inBlindenmarkt ,Lower Austria , where the SJM was seated after its expulsion from thediocese of Augsburg in 1995.External links
