Christopher David Naylor, OC, FRCPC, FRSC (born October 26, 1954) is a medical researcher and president of the University of Toronto.

Biography

A Rhodes Scholar, Naylor received an MD from the University of Toronto in 1978, proceeding to Hertford College, Oxford, where he earned a D.Phil in 1983 in the Department of Social and Administrative Studies. He completed work in internal medicine and clinical epidemiology at the University of Western Ontario and Toronto and joined the academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 1987.

Naylor was appointed Dean of Medicine and Vice Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions, of the University of Toronto in 1999. He was named Chair of the National Advisory Committee on SARS and Public Health, 2003, following the outbreak of SARS in Canada.[1]

The appointment of David Naylor as president of the University of Toronto was announced on 26 April 2005. He replaced acting president Vivek Goel who in turn had replaced interim president Frank Iacobucci, who himself took over after the departure of Robert Birgeneau. David Naylor officially took office on October 1, 2005.

On July 25, 2006, it was announced that David Naylor had been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.[2] He was appointed on April 6, 2006, and his investiture took place on February 9, 2007.[3]
