26 December 1972 ) is the English author of the teen spy books, CHERUB series. The series is often compared to theAlex Rider books byAnthony Horowitz [ [http://cherubvsalex.co.cc/ CHERUB VS. Alex Rider - Powered by CO.CC ] ] , the "Jimmy Coates" series byJoe Craig or the "Six of Hearts" series by Jack Heath.Robert is currently in a relationship withFletcher O'Leary , who is known for his role as
Mickey in the Australian soap operaNeighbours .Beginning of writing career
Muchamore had his first novel published in April of 2004. He worked as a PI for thirteen years, where he gained much of the insight he used to write the series. He later left this job and began to write full time in mid-2005. The author later admitted to fans on the official CHERUB forums that he left after a "huge row" with his boss where Muchamore threw a box of antiseptic wipes at him. Fortunately, he missed his boss and only dented the ceiling. CHERUB
Robert started writing the Cherub books because of his nephew, who couldn't find any books he liked reading. Robert tried to base the books about what his nephew wanted in his books. Unfortunately, by the time he finished the first book, his nephew was too old and didn't want to read them anyway. The CHERUB series follows the life of a character named James Adams (formerly James Choke), a member of CHERUB, a top-secret branch of British Intelligence. The organization recruits orphan children and trains them as spies. Once they are qualified as agents, they are sent all over the world to bring down criminal organizations, their success being based on the fact that criminals are highly unlikely to suspect that their child's new school friend is hacking into their computer, planting bugs in their house and tracking every move they make. So far Muchamore has written and published nine CHERUB novels (see below) with the next , due to be released in September 2008. 2008 has also seen the release of the author's mini book for
World Book Day . International sales have now surpassed the 2 million mark, and his latest book is currently #4 in the Amazon.co.uk Children's Bestsellers list. Muchamore is planning to create in total 12 CHERUB books based around James Adams but may extend the series around another character. [cite web|url=http://www.cherubcampus.com/authorfaq.htm |title= Author FAQ (Question 6) |accessmonthday=November 22 |accessyear=2007] Sadly only six of the books are available in the U.S.A as of 10/2/08.Other books
"Home" is another book written by Robert Muchamore. It was deemed too violent to be ever published by a Children's publisher and a publisher was never found. It was about child warfare in the
jungle . The full text can be found on the Muchamore website (www.muchamore.com) and the cherub forums. He posted the first two chapters onto the CHERUB series official forum, to see what his fans thought. Unlike "Home", Muchamore has not published the rest of the text on his fan forum because he still holds out some hope that it will be published.
Muchamore has written and publishing at least three novels about the beginning of CHERUB entitled
Henderson Boys . It is thought the first of these will be released in early 2009. The first book is to be known as HB: The Escape and the second called HB: Eagle Day, the third book's title is yet to be released. The books are to be set during World War II with Charles Henderson a British agent with four child characters. If the series is successful it may stretch to between six and eight books.Films
In a recent interview, he has said that there is going to be a film of the first book, "The Recruit" coming out in December 2008, though he hasn't revealed any of the actors in the promised movie.
