The station went on the air as WKDR on
June 1 ,1993 . The 1390 frequency was the original home WDOT call letters, prior to becoming WKDR. The WKDR calls originated on the AM 1070 frequency, licensed to Plattsburgh, N.Y.WKDR moved to fulltime 1390 in 1993 with the purchase of 1390 frequency. The move benefited WKDR since its old AM-1070 frequency operates a true daytimer protecting the former 50,000 watt clear channel (1-B) station,
CBA from Moncton, New Brunswick.WDOT originally started broadcasting in April 1954 on the 1400 frequency, and was Burlington's top-40 radio station for years. The station moved once sport down the dial to 1390 and was allowed to broadcast with 5,000 watts of power both daytme and nighttime. The station uses a three tower directional antenna at night to protect 1390 co-channels in Syracuse, NY, (WFBL) Presque Isle, Maine, (WEGP) and Plymouth Massachusetts (WPLM).
On
September 24 2002 , the station changed its call sign toWVAA , onAugust 21 ,2006 to the current WCAT, [ cite web|url=http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/call_hist.pl?Facility_id=73613&Callsign=WCAT |title=WCAT Call Sign History |work=United StatesFederal Communications Commission , audio division ]References
