SmartLynx Airlines is a charter airline based in Riga, Latvia. It operates ad hoc passenger charter flights across Europe and to Africa and Asia, as well as business and VIP charters. Its main base is Riga International Airport cite news | title= Directory: World Airlines | work= Flight International | page= 105 | date= 2007-04-03] . There are plans to begin schedule flights from Riga.

LatCharter has been renamed to SmartLynx Airlines during 15 years celebrations.

History

The airline was established in 1992 and started operations on 1993. It was founded to operate charter services from Riga and began operations with a leased Tupolev Tu-134B. In 2006 LatCharter agreed to cooperate with Loftleiðir Icelandic, the charter and ACMI arm of Icelandair Group, which led to the acquisition of a majority 55% shareholding in LatCharters stock in July 2006 with a commitment to buy the remaining shares in the future. It was founded by four professional pilots, is privately owned and has 100 employees (at March 2007).
